# Vocabulary

> Call needs and features whatever your organisation calls them. Presets, custom labels and saved sets, and where the labels show up.

## Why vocabulary exists

The two rosters Weivo rates against each other are "needs" and "features" by default, because that is how a product team talks. A portfolio office scores programs against objectives. A transformation team weighs initiatives against outcomes. Forcing everyone to say "feature" makes the report read like someone else's tool.

Vocabulary lets each project name its two nouns. Once set, the labels appear everywhere: tab names, forms, empty states, tooltips, the Decision Report, the spreadsheet import template, the stakeholder voting portal, and every prompt the AI receives.

## Presets

| Preset | Need | Feature | Default for |
| - | - | - | - |
| Product | Need / Needs | Feature / Features | Market-facing product |
| Initiative | Objective / Objectives | Initiative / Initiatives | Internal tool or platform |
| Portfolio | Objective / Objectives | Program / Programs | Program or portfolio |

Initiative and Portfolio share "Objective" on purpose. Each preset also carries a one-sentence description of the domain that the AI uses to frame its writing.

## Custom labels

Open Project Settings, **Vocabulary**, and switch to **Custom**. Enter a singular and a plural for both nouns, up to 40 characters each, and a short description of what your team is doing, which is only ever read by the AI. Save, and the project re-labels itself at once.

## Saved sets

A custom vocabulary can be saved under a name of up to 60 characters and applied to other projects from the **Saved Sets** segment. Sets can be renamed, edited and deleted from the same place. Deleting a set does not change any project that already uses it.

## Changing vocabulary later

Vocabulary is set in the wizard and can be changed at any time from Project Settings without touching any data. Ratings, links, votes and saved report versions are unaffected; only the words change.

<Note>
  This help center uses the default nouns, needs and features, throughout. If your project says objectives and programs, read accordingly.
